Nehemiah 8:10

“Be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.”

Strength

Where does strength come from? I’m not referring to the kind of strength that you attain from muscles but the strength inside of you that won’t let you give up. That strength that makes you keep going even though all you want to do is quit.

Strength: moral power, firmness, or courage.
Nehemiah 8:10 says “Be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.”

Joy: the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation

I’ll be honest. When I’m down, joy is probably the last thing I am feeling. But if you think about it, the reason I am down is because I am low in strength and if strength from the Lord is joy then that must mean that I need joy to get some strength. It’s almost like a math equation. (Self + Joy of the Lord= Strength)
Life is tough. Enough said. But with God, it doesn’t have to be. I am totally preaching to myself and it’s good. I need this. I think everybody needs to be reminded of everything God can be for us. He really is everything we need. I will be the first to admit that I forget. I forget everything He’s done for me and everything He is doing. I love the analogy of us being like babies learning how to walk. Like little babies when they’re learning how to walk, they fall a lot. It’s a process. Parents don’t get mad at their kids if they fall. They pick them up and help them try again. God is the same way with us. When we fall, He is not disappointed or angry; He picks us up and wants us to try again.

Emotions: A mental state that arises spontaneously rather than through conscious effort and is often accompanied by physiological changes; a feeling

Emotions are not reliable. They are so unpredictable and honestly I am not a big fan of them right now. I have to remind myself constantly I am not living based on my emotions; I am living based on the truth. The word of God. I stand on all the promises that belong to me. I have to believe that God is bigger than any circumstance. I have to believe that my God will supply all of my needs. I have to believe that by Jesus’ stripes I was healed. I have to believe that all things work together for good for those who love Him and are called upon His purpose.  I fight any negatives thoughts with scriptures. I fight the devil with the truth. If we know the devil is a liar, why would choose to believe him with any thoughts he puts in our head? Let’s all keep fighting the good fight. Draw your strength from the Lord and you will never fail.
